Sossusvlei Lodge, situated right at the entrance gate to the famous Sossusvlei and Sesriem Canyon, lets you enter a classic lifestyle of comfort, filled with the thoughtful touch of attentive staff. The decor speaks of the art, culture and traditions of African furnishings with soft finishes of inviting comfort. Sossusvlei Lodge uniquely crouches almost unnoticed in a vast ocean of unparalleled desert beauty.
Access to the Lodge is by way of a well-maintained system of gravel roads, a mere 330km from Windhoek, 360km from Swakopmund and 506km from Lüderitz. For those who prefer a speedier means of transport, the Lodge has its own landing strip and an air taxi service to facilitate the one hour scenic flight from any of the mentioned centres by way of a Cessna 210 aircraft.
Exploring the magical world of the oldest desert, the Namib desert is our forte. The Sossusvlei area is famous for some of the highest dunes on earth, rich in contrast of colour and shape. Guided 4-wheel drive excursions take you deep into the wonders of this ancient region.
Shaded by camel thorn trees, Sossusvlei Lodge is testament to the ingenuity of an eco-friendly design. Accommodation at the Lodge comprises 45 en-suite bedrooms under canvas with adobe-style plaster walls all spread out on either side of the main recreational complex. The décor speaks of African art, culture and tradition while furnishings with soft finishes invite comfort and warmth. When one enters Sossusvlei Lodge, one enters a classic lifestyle of comfort, filled with the thoughtful touch of attentive staff. Solar energy supplies the lights in all rooms. For the guests convenience a 220-240V power point on the standard South African 3-point system is available in each room.
Excellent cuisine under the guidance of the Lodge’s executive chef is the order of the day in the restaurant and on the al fresco terrace, where one can savour a gourmet meal with great food and wine while taking in the splendid views and watching the passing parade of Oryx, Springbok jackal, ground squirrel and hyena at the nearby floodlit waterhole. Indeed a visual and culinary contrast, if one bears in mind the relative remoteness of this exceptional location.
As the sun steals its last rays strokes of purple from the far mountains. Shake off the desert dust with ice cold local lager - on tap in the unique bar.
The sparkling pool or a quiet drink under the shady crown of an ancient camel thorn tree makes for the best relaxation after an eventful day.
A light aircraft is permanently based at the Lodge’s airstrip and provides daily scenic flights of adventure on various routes over the area, as well as providing the air taxi service to and from the Lodge. One can fly down to Sossusvlei and take in the vista from the air or experience the vastness of the desert and enthralling dune patterns on the flight down to the coast. The shipwrecks along this stretch of barren coastline are a photographer’s dream.
